We all tend to use energy around the same time of day. For there to be enough energy for everyone at these busy times, lots of fossil fuels get burned to cope with the demand. But there are also times when there is more than enough renewable energy to go around.
This causes problems for the National Grid. Balancing the grid involves trying to reduce how much fossil fuel is used but also making sure there is enough energy to keep the lights on and homes warm.
